Mission Bay
Getting the heights right
3 weeks on site
A flat back yard with an old, broken concrete slab along the back of the house. Most of the design was heights: the new deck had to join the existing one and meet every door, so the house now opens onto one surface that leads to the pool, and the pool had to sit at the right height above the deck. The fence was a second job inside the job: about 25 m of it had failed under creeping fig, and we rebuilt it with an 8 m return and a pedestrian gate.
St Heliers
Retaining, a deck platform and pavers
1 week on site
Timber retaining walls about 0.6 m high, in 150 × 50 H4 boards front-fixed to 125 mm piles, with a deck platform. The paving is 600 × 600 concrete pavers set on mortar, finished with Waikato fleck pebbles.
