Pools and pool surrounds

Around the water. We do not supply pools. We build the ground one sits in and every surface around it, working to your supplier's drawings and holding the consent programme together.

Pool landscaping

A pool goes in fast — in a morning, by crane or carried in by hand. Everything that makes it feel part of the house happens either side of that: excavation, retaining, coping, decking, barriers and drainage. That is the part we do, working alongside your pool supplier.

Pool surround renovation

Rebuilt pool surround in Vitex decking and porcelain coping, Meadowbank

The pool is usually fine. It is the coping, the deck and the barrier that have aged. We rebuild the surround without touching the shell: new decking or porcelain, coping reset to the pool line, drainage corrected where water sits, and barriers brought up to current standard.

Plunge pools

Above ground, partly in, or fully in — the ground decides which of the three your site gets. We build the slab or the excavation, the deck cut to the pool line and the boundary, we manage the barrier, and we are on site on delivery day, because the pool has to fit what we have built around it.

Decks, fences and retaining

Above the ground. Everything that stands up off the section. All of it on the same anchor piles and stainless fixings, because the part you cannot see is what decides how long it lasts.

Deck building

Hardwood and pine decks in Vitex, Kwila, Macrocarpa or treated pine, cut to the line of the house. Anchor piles in concrete, stainless throughout, and grip-tread laid grooves down so the water runs away underneath the board instead of sitting in the tread all winter long.

Timber fencing & gates

Painted pine boundary fence along the street frontage, Torbay

Boundary fences, slat screens, gates and timber balustrade to fall-height compliance. Dressed posts standing proud of the line, a negative detail between the rails, sprayed rather than brushed. These are what make a fence look made rather than simply bought off a price list.

Retaining walls

Retaining and level work behind a plunge pool, Herne Bay

Timber, sleeper and buried retaining, on concreted piles with scoria drained behind the full run. Height and ground conditions decide whether an engineer is needed, and plenty of walls do not need one at all. We work that out before quoting rather than at inspection time.

The right finish is what makes a build endure. Resene colour matched precisely, sprayed or brushed to sit evenly across the grain, on decks, fences, screens and planters. It is the quiet layer most people skip over, and the one that keeps the timber looking sharp for years.

Under your feet. Where every job starts and where the falls get set. The dig, the base and the pour, done by the same crew, so nobody is blaming anyone else for the levels.

Almost every job starts with a digger, and we run our own. Set-out, levels, pile holes, re-grading and spoil removal, on sites other machines simply cannot reach — at Herne Bay we went in through an 850 mm gap and 63 cubic metres of soil came out by barrow, in fourteen bins.

Concrete & driveways

Exposed aggregate entrance and driveway, Point Chevalier

Exposed aggregate driveways, patios and paths, poured over a properly prepared base with falls set before anyone orders concrete. Mesh, reinforced borders, saw-cut joints and drainage all designed in, because concrete is the one part of a job you cannot redo cheaply later.

Concrete patios & slabs

The concrete you actually stand on, judged at close range in a way a driveway never is. Exposed aggregate, or a reinforced slab built to carry porcelain, with the falls and drainage resolved before anyone orders a load — including where a patio cannot be fallen away at all.

The whole space at once. For when the answer is not one element but the arrangement of all of them, and you would rather somebody drew the thing properly before anyone started digging.
